About Sand City
Sand City, located 10 minutes from downtown Monterey and 86 miles south south of San Francisco, is an exquisite combination of a New York’s SoHo atmosphere with its rugged warehouses, all framed by gently undulating sand dunes and crisp blue ocean waves. The Pacific Ocean, peninsula and the rolling coastal hills provides a roster of activities with limitless possibilities for adventure.
Limited coastal development has also been a long-standing goal of Sand City. To that end, 75 percent of Sand City’s coastline has been targeted for open space and habitat protection in conjunction with limited coastal development.
West End District
Location for we. murals 2020. The West End is a diverse collection of businesses, residents and artists. They coexist side-by-side in a unique harmony that brings a certain vitality not found anywhere else on the peninsula. The City is using arts-based initiatives to encourage a sense of excitement among the citizens and to expand the cultural offerings of the community in order to create the kind of place where residents and visitors are eager to live and visit.

West End: There are several artist studios within the West End District. Most do not have normal “open” hours.
Beach and Dunes: Limited coastal development has also been a long-standing goal of Sand City. To that end, 75 percent of Sand City’s coastline has been targeted for open space and habitat protection in conjunction with limited coastal development.
Coastal Trail: The trail runs through Sand City along the coast. One of the most unique features in Sand City & Monterey County is the Monterey Bay Coastal Recreation Trail. This paved path stretches 18 miles from Castroville in the north to Pacific Grove in the south.
Community Garden: Located at the corner of Diaz Street and Holly Street.
